PUTRAJAYA - The public in areas with poor air quality or hot weather are advised to limit their outdoor activities.

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said to avoid exposure to the hot weather and haze, time spent outside of buildings should be limited.

"Use an appropriate mask if there is haze and use umbrellas and hats to avoid direct exposure to the heat.

"Close the windows to reduce haze particles from entering homes or buildings," she said in a statement, today.

Zaliha advises people to drink at least eight glasses of plain water a day to prevent dehydration.

Staying hydrated she said was important to control the body temperature.

"Shower to cool the body, avoid wearing thick, tight and dark-colored clothes to lower down body temperatures.

"Use efficient air conditioners and air filters at home to filter fine particles and prevent air pollution from entering your homes if possible," she added.

Zaliha advised those who were feeling sick to seek treatment at the nearest health facility.

According to the Air Pollution Index Management System (Apims) website, as of 8am today, a moderate air pollution index (APU) reading was recorded.
