Cancer patient with seized MyKad dies

SHAH ALAM - The National Registration Department (JPN) has expressed condolences to the family of Lina Samuel, who passed away today after battling stage four colon cancer.

Lina, 65 from Lawas, Sarawak made headlines earlier this month, claiming that JPN confiscated her MyKad when she wanted to change her address.

She then claimed to face difficulties in receiving medical treatment.

In a statement, JPN confirmed Lina's passing today, as reported by The Borneo Post.

The statement said the department had met with her and reopened investigation papers for her case.

"However, based on her concerns and wellbeing, JPN issued a temporary identification document (KPPK11) on April 13, 2023.

"The Sarawak State Health Director’s official statement on April 12, 2023, said the deceased was given proper treatment services at Miri Hospital continuously without prejudice even during the absence of such identification documents,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Previously the media reported Lina's doctor's appointment were cancelled due to not having her identification card.

On April 10 Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution confirmed JPN investigations found the senior citizen was not Malaysian but Indonesian.

JPN said those with questions or problems on registration of birth, identity card, death, marriage and citizenship issues should visit any of the 212 offices across the country.

"The public could also get information on department services online and several official JPN social media platforms,” it said.
