KUALA LUMPUR - Any attempts to topple the current government will make it difficult for ambassadors abroad to convince investors as the country may be seen as unstable, says Malaysia's ambassador to the United States (US) Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

In an interview with Awani, Nazri explained that it was the duty of the ambassadors to help the government to convince investors to invest in Malaysia.

He said foreign investors were very concerned about the country's stabillity before deciding to make an investment.

"I fully support Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar who said it was important to maintain the stability of the government.

"I am speaking in my capacity as the ambassador to the US, not as a politician.

"I believe Malaysian ambassadors in other countries are also worried if there is an attempt to overthrow the government because then the country will be unstable and investors would not be interested to come to our country.

"I have met with investors in the US and they truly emphasised on the stability of a government before investing in any country," he said.

Nazri also said he had met many Malaysian diaspora in the US who expressed full support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's effort to eliminate corruption.

He said most of the Malaysian diaspora in the country also want the current government to remain for one term to create stability.

"These people, even though they are abroad, they still care about the stability of Malaysia.

"Everyone I met supports Anwar's effort to eliminate corruption.

"In fact, some of them said the MPs who want to topple the government had acted like that as they are involved in the corruption," he added.

Nazri advised the MPs to respect the unity government that was decided by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

He stressed that MPs needed to prove their loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by working together to maintain the stability of the country and not try to topple the government.

"We have to keep in mind that today's government was formed in accordance to the constitution as there was no party or coalition that was able to establish a government.

"So the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had carried out his duties according to the constitution by advising a unity government to be formed and Anwar appointed as Prime Minister.

"The MPs need to prove to the people that they obey the King and uphold the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who wants a stable government," he said.

Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim voiced his concern about the ongoing rumours on the government's stability, even after six months since the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said the people, economy, well-being and prosperity of the country must be prioritised. - AWANI
