KUALA LUMPUR - A fire broke out at the Mid Valley Megamall today.

Several videos showing a black plume of smoke from the building have gone viral on social media.

A spokesman for the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

"The fire involved one of Tenaga Nasional Berhad's (TNB) power substation rooms. We will issue a statement soon," he said.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, Mid Valley Megamall confirmed that a fire broke out at the external TNB substation, Mid Valley City, and was subsequently contained by the Emergency Response Team.

The mall also confirmed that as of 11.38 am, no injuries or casualties were reported, and the Fire and Rescue Department are currently on the scene conducting all necessary investigations and securing the premises with no further disruptions to the mall operations.

"Mid Valley City will be closed until further notice. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to reiterate that the safety of our shoppers and guests remains our top priority," the statement said.

In another statement, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) said that all shows at Mid Valley Megamall would be cancelled, and the cinema would be temporarily closed until further notice.

"While our GSC cinema is not directly affected, we are cooperating with local authorities and the mall's management to ensure everyone's safety. We will be issuing refunds for all purchased tickets," GSC said on Facebook. - BERNAMA
