SHAH ALAM - Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Central Leadership Council member Faiz Fadzil has criticized Kedah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's statement that the Pas-led state was 'directed' to become poor.

Faiz claimed that the allegation was actually an attempt to cover up the weakness of the Pas leadership ahead of the upcoming state elections

"Sanusi's statement seems to blame the paddy industry for Kedah's poverty, its like blaming the rice farmers for the state's decline which is caused by the failure of Pas's own administration.

"The fact is, the Kedah state government is not playing its role of developing local industries and attracting quality international investment.

"(So) Sanusi needs to stop looking for other people's mistakes and learn to self-reflect which is highly recommended in Islamic teachings," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Muhammad Sanusi was recently reported as saying that the current or previous Kedah administration is subjected to federal policies in terms of land use and that has lead to a high rates of poverty in the state.

Faiz said Pas should learn to take responsibility for the poverty and backwardness of the states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah. This is because, he said, these setbacks have forced young people to migrate to other states, including Penang, which promised better job opportunities.

Therefore, the people of Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu need to evaluate exactly which party should be chosen to govern these states

"The well-being of the people depends on the economic growth of a state. One vote for Pas and Perikatan Nasional (PN) is one vote for anti-progress," he said.
