Erdogan campaign speech on LGBT making waves after win

SHAH ALAM - Recep Tayyip's Erdogan's anti LGBT stance has seen him relected as president in a historic runoff election on Sunday, of what political observers have noted as the toughest challenge of his political career.

According to international news outlets, Erdogan's pre election rallies have seen him appealing to his consevative Muslim voter base, by denouncing pro-lgbt stands and accusing opposition parties of being 'pro LGBT'

"AK Party (AKP) and other parties in our alliance will never be pro-LGBT because the family is sacred to us

"Those who are pro-LGBT will be buried in the ballot box," he had told a gathering of his supporters ahead of the parliamentary and presidential elections,

In recent years, Erdogan has stepped up his rhetoric against the LGBT community, regularly branding members "deviants."

He also took aim at his major electoral adversary, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the main opposition alliance.

"My people will not allow drunks and boozers to take the stage. Mr Kemal, you can drink barrels of it, nothing can cure you," he said.

"We will not allow Kilicdaroglu, who is hand in hand with terrorists, to divide our homeland," Erdogan had said.

According to unofficial results, the Turkish president won the race with 52.14 percent, while Kilicdaroglu got 47.86 per cent of the votes.
