SHAH ALAM - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor's statement that Perikatan Nasional would capture Penang in the upcoming state polls, is "childish" due to the widely acknowledged fact that it is an impossible task.

Dr Oh Ei Sun, a senior fellow at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said PN is likely to maintain its hold on Kedah.

"Penang as more Chinese-majority seats than Malay-majority seats and is unlikely to be won by PN, unless some of its state assembly members withdraw their support for the PH chief minister"," he told Sinar Daily.

He labelled Sanusi's statement as "very childish" and deemed it beneath the dignity of a chief minister.

Oh was referring to Sanusi's statement that Penang will be under Kedah.

Commenting further, political analyst Associate Professor Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said PN will retain Kedah and the party will regain more seats in Penang.

"However PH will form the government in Penang. Sanusi is known as a strategist and will look into strategic issues to win support, especially among the Malay voters.

"I think the non-Malay voters are still support PH while the Malays are divided and that’s why Sanusi is looking to make inroads to woo fence sitters and first time voters," he said.
