KUALA LUMPUR - Bachok MP Mohd Syahir Sulaiman has proposed Titiwangsa MP Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani to be appointed as Finance Minister II as he was capable of handling the position.

He said Johari could assist Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is also the Finance Minister.

"It's almost impossible for the prime minister to shoulder the functions at a critical period as many important decisions must be made, documents must be signed and reviewed daily.

"Some of these confidential tasks couldn't be handed over to the deputy finance minister," he said in a Facebook post today.

He said this while addressing the controversy that emerged after the prime minister attributed the depreciation of the ringgit due to various factors, including international constraints, rather than the absence of a full-time finance minister.

"I didn't talk about the causes previously but the focus was on the solution," Syahir said.
