Thai national fined RM25,000 for smuggling subsidised diesel

IPOH - A Thai national was fined RM25,000 by the Taiping Sessions Court after pleading guilty to a charge of smuggling subsidised diesel to Thailand.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Perak branch director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, in a statement, said that Judge Nabisa Ibrahim meted out the punishment to Abdulloh Yamadong, 58.

"The court also ordered the accused to serve six months in jail if he failed to pay the fine. The accused paid the fine,” said Kamaluddin.

Kamalludin said that according to the charge, Abdulloh was accused of trying to smuggle out 71 litres of subsidised diesel in the four-wheel-drive vehicle’s tank.

The offence was committed at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex Bukit Berapit, Pengkalan Hulu at 8.15 pm, on April 29.

Abdulloh, who was not represented, was charged under Regulation 3(1) of Control of Supplies (Prohibition of Exports) Regulations 2011 and can be punished under Paragraph 5(a) of the same law.

The law provides a fine of not more than RM100,000 or imprisoned not more than two years or both for the first offence and a fine not exceeding RM250,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding three years or both for the second or subsequent offences if found guilty, said Kamalludin. - BERNAMA
