KUALA LUMPUR - Wanita Umno will establish a monitoring team to review the Unity Government's policies so that they don't deviate and cause harm to the Malays or the Islamic religion.

Its chief Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the wing's Law and Religious Affairs Secretariat will manage the team.

"Wanita will set up a monitoring team to review the government's policies. We need to avoid policies that can harm the Malays and Muslims," she said in her speech during the 2023 Umno Wanita General Assembly at Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL), here today.

Separately, Noraini also stressed that the upcoming six-state election will become the determining factor for the party's rise or fall.

She said the state election is crucial in determining the party's future direction.

"Umno needs to immediately determine its political path," she said.

Earlier today, the Penang state government announced that it would dissolve the state assembly on June 28 to pave the way for the state polls.

In the previous 15th General Election (GE15), six states, namely Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Kelantan, and Terengganu, did not dissolve their respective state assemblies. Hence, state elections need to be held if the state government dissolves its state assembly or if the state assembly dissolves automatically at the end of its term.

Taking into account the period of dissolution, the election in the six states was expected to be held in July or August, which is 60 days after the date of dissolution.
