Suspect in child abuse case under police custody, thorough investigation assured

SHAH ALAM - The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is deeply concerned about the viral case of a two-year-old girl who was subjected to abuse by someone known to her.

In a statement, the ministry acknowledged that the suspect is currently in police custody and expressed confidence that a thorough investigation will be conducted to bring the perpetrator to justice.

It said the government will not compromise with any offences involving the rights and welfare of children in line with the Child Act 2001.

"The abused girl has been brought to the hospital with her mother to receive medical treatments and were in safe conditions.

"The Social Welfare Department (SWD) and all departments and agencies under the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry will continue to provide appropriate care and protection to children.

"Efforts will also be made to raise awareness and prevent similar incidents," the statement read.

The public is urged to report any information related to child abuse cases to the Kasih Hotline at 15999 or via WhatsApp at 019-2615999 or head towards the nearest Social Welfare District Office (PKMD) to get immediate assistance.

A girl had suffered injuries on Wednesday suspected of being abused by her mother's boyfriend at a home in the Desa Rejang People's Housing Project (PPR) Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

Wangsa Maju district police chief Superintendent Saralathan Duraisamy in a statement, said he received the report on the incident at 5.05pm on the same day.

He said the baby sustained injuries on her back, swollen lips and bruises on both eyes.
