KUALA LUMPUR - Umno Youth chief welcomes Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman with open arms if he returns to Umno.

Dr Muhamad Akmal Salleh said that Umno was now at its lowest point and needed to accept anyone who wanted to help strengthen the party.

"Umno is at its lowest point now, and this is the time for those who love Umno to sit at one table and help Umno because we need help and opinions from all parties.

"We should not stop people who want to help the party. This was discussed in Umno Supreme Council meeting and is still under discussion.

"For me, as long as he (who was fired) can help the party to achieve victory and (can) obey the party's institutions, we should accept them," he told reporters when met at Media Centre in conjunction with the Umno General Assembly at World Trade Center (WTC) today.

Dr Akmal further said that Tajuddin was a very devoted member and had made many contributions to the party, which must be valued.

"Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad left Umno in 1969 and made a comeback in 1972 and served as one of the longest Umno president.

"So it doesn't mean that if he (Tajuddin) leaves Umno, he doesn't love Umno.

"If he sincerely loves Umno, Umno Youth members will welcome him to come back and strengthen Umno again," he said.

Yesterday, the suspended former Umno supreme council member Tajuddin praised Dr Akmal for his bold action urging DAP to apologise to the party.

The former Pasir Salak MP said the demands made by Dr Akmal were seen as brave and necessary to revive the party.
