IPOH - Perak civil servants are reminded not to make embarrassing social media postings either written or spoken that could tarnish the government’s image.

State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim said that this was stated under the Civil Servants (Conduct and Order) Regulations 1993.

He said the usage of social media without restrictions and emotional control could cause negative implications and disturb the focus on accountability.

"It cannot be denied that social media is an important tool in influencing the public’s reaction as well as having a positive or negative impact on implementing government policies or actions.

"For civil servants, we can’t escape being targeted by criticism. There are also civil servants who use social media as a space to spread hate speech or criticise and denounce the government.

"We must be aware that all information we receive is not completely accurate and we should overcome this matter,” he said.

Suaidi said civil servants must become smart users with integrity in raising productivity and work quality.

"Civil servants, especially those receiving APC should maintain the momentum of the work results regardless of the challenges so that the aspects of work are carried out quickly and orderly,” he said.
