SHAH ALAM - The construction of the Tok Bali Water Treatment Plant (LRA) is not something new, rather it is a continuation of an existing project under a new name.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said there was actually nothing new from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement yesterday to resolve the water woes in Kelantan.

He said Anwar was merely continuing the efforts of the previous project initiated by the Environment and Water Ministry (Kasa).

"It is a continuation of what Kasa previously implemented when I led the ministry.

"The Tok Bali Water Treatment Plant project is not a new project, it is just a change of the name from what the ministry previously called as Semerak LRA.

"At that time, it was named as Semerak LRA because it was built on the banks of Sungai Semerak and on the land owned by Semerak Irrigation and Drainage Department," he said in a statement on Facebook today.

However, Tuan Ibrahim who is also former environment and water minister welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement that the government wanted to resolve the water supply issue in Kelantan.

"I welcome the Prime Minister's announcement that the government wants to tackle the water supply issue in the state.

"Alhamdulillah, for the sake of prosperity and goodness, the project should be continued," he said.

Yesterday, Anwar announced that the government had approved an immediate allocation of RM500 million to solve the state's water woes.

He said the allocation was to expedite the construction of the Tok Bali LRA and the replacement of water pipes in Bachok.
