MIC submits seat application for state election, decision pending

SHAH ALAM - The MIC has officially applied for several seats in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to contest the upcoming state election.

MIC President Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran confirmed the application but did not disclose the specific seats to Sinar Premium.

He stated that the decision regarding the number of seats had been submitted to the highest leadership of Barisan Nasional (BN), the coalition the party belongs to.

"We have submitted it to BN President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for discussion on the seat application.

"At the moment, no decision has been made," he briefly stated on Wednesday.

Previously, both MCA and Negeri Sembilan MIC expressed their belief that they should be given the opportunity to compete for seats in the upcoming state election.

According to state MCA leader, Siow Koi Voon, all principle component parties participating in the unity government should be granted the chance to compete.

On the other hand, state MIC Chief Datuk L Manickam disagreed with the idea of not allocating any seats to the party.

Previously, Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, Chow Kon Yeow said that MIC and MCA have also expressed their interest in contesting for certain seats, but the outcome still needs to be determined.

In the previous 14th General Election, MIC nominated nine candidates, including three state assembly seats in Selangor (Ijok, Sungai Tua, and Sentosa); two seats in Kedah (Lunas and Bukit Selambau); two seats in Penang (Bagan Dalam and Perai); and two seats in Negeri Sembilan (Jeram Padang and Sri Tanjung).
