ALOR SETAR - Malaysians have been urged to continue giving the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim the chance and time to drive the country in a better direction and create various successes.

Local Government Development Ministry Nga Kor Ming said the country has witnessed several achievements within six months after the Unity Government took the helm including the rise in the World Competitiveness Ranking (WCR) by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) for this year.

"I would like to share some of the achievements of the Madani government, the IMD world ranking has just announced that Malaysia has surpassed South Korea for the first time in terms of world competitiveness. Our ranking has jumped from 32nd place (last year) and now ranks 27th.

"We have not achieved this for a long time, that's why I say the leadership with integrity under Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has started to bear fruit," he said at a press conference after a working visit to Teluk Wanjah Public Market here today.

Nga said as a result of the government’s hard work, the national inflation rate has also eased to 2.8 per cent in May as announced by the Department of Statistics Malaysia.

According to him, it shows that the country’s administration is on the right track but it needs time to create more achievements that will benefit the people.

"We cannot reach the moon in six months. It takes us 36 months to build PPR (People’s Housing Project), so it’s important (to give time),” he added.

Nga said Malaysia's ranking of 73rd place in the 2023 World Press Freedom Index based on the Reporters Without Borders (RSF) report, compared to last year's ranking of 133rd, was also an encouraging achievement.

"...this means that this government respects democracy and listens to the voice of the people. The Malaysia Madani government does not play up racial sentiments or narrow religious beliefs, there is none of that, we just focus on work," he added. - Bernama
