State polls outcome won't change federal government - Ahmad Maslan

PONTIAN - The outcome of the state elections that ought to be held in six states would not change the Unity government led by the BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said although there were efforts to topple the government, the decision of the state elections would not have affected the Unity government.

"I want to say that there are efforts to topple the unity government. However, any decisions or outcomes in the state elections would not affect the central administration.

"Whether Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins slightly or the unity government wins big in the Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Kedah, and Terengganu elections, it would not change the 148 Parliamentary seats," he said.

The Pontian MP added that the efforts carried out by the unity government to govern gave the public confidence.

"I’m confident the matter (to topple the government) would not happen as best efforts are being carried out for the people and the nation by the government.

"From an economic standpoint, there are many encouraging developments, such as Malaysia’s rise by five places from 32 to 27 in the global competitiveness rankings.

"Inflation and unemployment are also showing declines. We also have a deficit, and the government is working towards reducing it from 5.6 per cent to five per cent," he said.

The media reported on Saturday that there were perceptions that the unity government would fall by August, causing foreign investors to be wary of investing in Malaysia.
