MARANG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) aims for a two-cornered clash in the upcoming state elections, with the opposition party pittng against the government bloc comprising Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

Its Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the approach would simplify the decision-making process for voters in choosing their preferred candidate and leader to vote for.

"We expect a two-sided competition between PN and PH,” he told reporters after a visit from PN chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin at his residence here.

The preparations for the state election, the Pas President said the Pas Syura Ulama Council has given its approval to all the candidates who will be contesting in the upcoming state election.

However, he said the candidate selection process is still in progress and the party is working to identify suitable candidates who will be appointed to represent the party and contest in their respective seats.

"Yesterday, (Friday) the syura ulama council reviewed all the candidates listed from Pas including Tan Sri Annuar Musa but he did not intend to contest.

"Since he is a big figure, we agree if he (Annuar) plays a role at the national level since he is a big figure. He is more suitable at the national level, not the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hadi expressed hope that the momentum and enthusiasm from the 15th general election (GE15) could be sustained and further intensified.

"We are witnessing a wave of people being very positive towards PN, especially when they see overly negative statements from the PH leadership.
