KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is still hunting down an agent believed to have demanded RM18,000 "duit kopi" bribe in connection with a case involving the entry of a Chinese tourist into the country.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Seri Azam Baki stated that the individual involved has been identified as a foreign male but his current location has not been ascertained.

Last Wednesday, Sinar reported that the suspect is believed to be working for a company managing tourist in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Azam had said the tourist agency is believed to have been operating at the KLIA premises since 2017, managing flight tickets and catering for tourist groups visiting Malaysia.

MACC suspects that the agent handling the entry of Chinese nationals was also from China.

Previously, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing admitted that he was the minister associated with the commotion at the KLIA international arrival hall, where he intervened to assist a Chinese citizen who was detained from entering Malaysia.

He claimed that there is a culture of corruption involving a few officers and abuse of power at the country's entry points.
