Nursery accused of abusing children ordered to close

IPOH - A nursery accused of abusing five children and causing physical injuries was ordered to close temporarily.

The orders was released by the Social Welfare Department (SWD) under Section 16 Subsection (1)(a)/(b) of the Child Care Centre Act 1984 (Act 308).

State SWD director Nor Tipah Majin said the closure notice was given on Thursday effective immediately until the nursery obeyed the rules and regulations set.

"SWD investigations on the provision violation has been made. Following this the nursery will be ordered to close temporarily,” she said when contacted by Sinar on Friday.

She said further actions would be taken subject to the results of the police investigation and the court’s decision.

"SWD will monitor it periodically to ensure strict implementation towards the qualily of service

"At the same time, all operators and supervisors who participate in the operation of a nursery must comply to the provisions of the law,” she said.

The media on Monday reported three women including a teacher were arrested to help investigate the abuse case of five children in an incident at a nursery in Taman Meru Perdana 2 here.

The arrests were made on all suspects following a police report lodged by a father of a victim last Thursday.

The three women were charged in the Ipoh Sessions Court on Friday for neglecting and abusing four girls and a boy aged around two years old under their care.

The victims were subjected to hair pulling, slapping the victim’s cheek, pressing their head towards a pillow, hitting the back of the child’s body and pinching the victim’s cheek.
