Amirudin urges people to be guided by knowledge, information to prevent bigotry

KUALA SELANGOR - Caretaker Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has reminded people to reject seditious extreme religious views that could jeopardise national harmony and lead to bigotry.

He said that such views must be rejected because they are not based on knowledge and information, and can lead to extremism.

"If that spirit is not educated and guided with knowledge and information, it will eventually lead to elements of bigotry," he said at Tanjong Karang Perpaduan Maal Hijrah Celebration Ceremony at Jalan Sekolah Kampung Raja Musa, Tanjong Karang on yesterday.

Amirudin said that the Selangor government has always instilled Islamic values in its governance, but not with an unnecessary amount of spirit that leads to no good.

He stressed that extremist beliefs based on racism and religion cannot be let to spread further, as they have done in other countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Middle East.

Amirudin said that the Selangor government is currently under attack from various angles for adopting the term "Madani", which means "civilised".

He said that he believes that the government is doing the right thing by adopting this term, as it shows that the government is aware of the future environment and is committed to building a progressive and inclusive society.
