KUALA LUMPUR - DAP has proposed former Banting state assembly member Lau Weng San as Selangor speaker if the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition wins the next state elections.

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the condition was set following the move by DAP to vacate the Dusun Tua state seat to BN.

"We've vacated the Dusun Tua seat (to BN), and we proposed a non-assemblyman to be the speaker. That is our condition," he said.

He said this during the DAP Candidate Announcement Ceremony for the Selangor state polls at the DAP Headquarters here on Monday.

On Friday, BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced that the party would only contest in 12 Selangor State Assembly seats, including Dusun Tua, in the upcoming state polls on Aug 12.

Previously, DAP's Edry Faizal Eddy Yusof won the Dusun Tua state seat in the 14th General Elections with a majority of 10,422 votes against Mohd Zin (BN) and Razaly Hassan (PAS).

Following that, DAP admitted that it was a little disappointed by the decision. However, it decided to comply as the decision had been finalised.

Loke also proposed that former Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah be made the Chairman of the Klang Port Authority if the coalition wins the state elections.

This came after Yong was dropped from being nominated in the state polls and replaced by Wong Siew Ki.
