Over 200 contingents to participate in Sabah national day parade

KOTA KINABALU - Over 200 contingents consisting of uniformed bodies, government agencies and Sabah non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will participate in the state-level 2023 National Day parade on August 31.

Sabah National Day Celebration Main Organising Committee secretary Datuk Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair said this time around, the event will be held at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen instead of Padang Merdeka here.

He said over 5,000 visitors are expected to join the celebration which will feature among others, a fly-past show over the Kota Kinabalu airspace, involving Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) assets.

"Various programmes and activities have been lined up for the public to celebrate the National Day together, so we invite Sabahans, especially those living in Kota Kinabalu, to join the merriment and enliven the occasion," he told Bernama.

Mohd Sofian, who is also the State Finance Ministry’s permanent secretary said several programmes are being organised throughout the National month beginning with the launch of the state-level National Month and Flying of the Jalur Gemilang campaign on August 1.

The launch of the state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Kota Kinabalu City Hall Building compound will be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

At the event, Hajiji will also flag off the 2023 Sabah Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy, which will be stopping at 65 locations across the state, in addition to Lawas, Sarawak on August 13, before ending the tour on August 20 in Kota Kinabalu. - BERNAMA
