'Non-Muslims are not the cause of corruption' says Guan Eng

BUTTERWORTH - Penang Pakatan Harapan's Air Putih candidate Lim Guan Eng slams Pas president Tan Sri Hadi Awang and Pas election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who play up the corruption issue as a major problem among non-Muslims.

"They have repeatedly mentioned this; it doesn't matter about Hadi or Sanusi; they say corruption is caused by non-Muslims; that is not true at all. They use corruption as the main reason to hit us (non-Muslims).

"If we (non-Muslims) talk like that to Muslims, this becomes a big controversy, but DAP does not make such a statement," he told media members at the ‘Ceramah Harapan PRN’ at the Wolley Car Park in Raja Uda today.

On July 12, Sanusi claimed that non-Muslims are the ones who get arrested the most for giving and receiving bribes, adding that what he has said is true and a fact.

Explaining why Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras are the cause of corruption in Malaysia, Sanusi pointed his finger at DAP as the ones who started playing the narrative that Malay leaders are involved in bribery and corruption.

Guan Eng, who is also DAP national chairman, further elaborated that this issue has hurt the hearts of non-Muslims in this country.

"Here, we don't commit corruption, but we are the ones who are blamed. I think they slander and lie just for their political pattern. Not to forget, many accusations are baseless.

"This is what we want to correct; what is stated should be held by Malaysians. If this racial issue continues, the country's economy will decline," he elaborated.
