KUCHING - The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud was taken ill while out of the country and is currently recuperating, according to the state government.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali said the current situation does not require the appointment of an acting Head of State.

She said Abdul Taib, though not in the state, is in communication with the state government and able to discharge his official and constitutional duties.

"The state government is regularly informed of his medical status and that the state government's further action will be guided by the State Constitution and the interests of the state,” she said in a statement today. - Bernama
