PETALING JAYA: An aide to Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli has appeared to blame Muda after Pakatan Harapan suffered a narrow defeat in Sungai Kandis, Selangor.

"(We) lost Sungai Kandis....If only the votes weren’t split,” Farhan Iqbal said in a tweet after Wan Dzahanurin Ahmad of Perikatan Nasional narrowly defeated the Pakatan candidate by 167 votes in a three-cornered fight.

Dzahanurin secured 28,926 votes against the 28,759 won by his main rival, Zawali Mughni of PH who won 28,759 votes.

Afriena Shaqira from Muda acquired a total of 1,341 votes, a sufficient number to ensure a victory for PH if the votes had been in their favor.

Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had previously dismissed the notion that the party would hurt the PH-BN alliance's chances by splitting the votes.

Yesterday, PH's Kampung Tunku state seat candidate Lim Yi Wei and Parti Amanah Negara's (Amanah) Youth chief Mohd Hasbie Muda have slammed Syed Saddiq for his decision to contest solo in the upcoming state elections and for his over-criticism of the government.

Lim said that Syed Saddiq and Muda have 'squandered a lot of goodwill' and that their objectives are 'questionable'.

Meanwhile, Hasbie said that Syed Saddiq should have been patient and that his decision to compete solo was his exit strategy from the unity government.
