GEORGE TOWN - Candidates who won in the 2023 state elections recently are advised to perform their responsibilities as representatives instead of simply politicking.

According to Penang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor said every assemblymen must realise that their work does not stop upon winning the elections.

He said that every assemblyman should have in mind that the service to the public encompasses all fields, be it physical, mental and spiritual development.

"After the elections the time for campaigning, and for political parties scrambling to take over the government is over. The public has decided, whether they agreed or not, parties must comply and respect the decision.

"Now it's no longer time to be politicking, but to continue all development efforts towards the public's needs, taking care of the welfare as well as the wellbeing of all," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

He added all candidates who won must shoulder the heavy trust and responsibility given by Allah SWT and the public.

"The public will observe how far those chosen would keep to their promises in the party manifesto, as it is known the life of the public especially in certain states were still far behind in several developmental aspects

"Thus, the work must be done now, may all those who are chosen perform their respective tasks and responsibilities honestly and truthfully," he said

Wan Salim hoped that the cooperation between the state government and the unity government would be harmonious for the importance of the public, without counting the difference in ideologies as well as political understanding.

"I hope we can let all parties work for the sake of the nation and the public in peace without any disturbances. I think with an efficient and wise leadership as well as a high commitment whether from the Federal or state government, Malaysia would become amongst the most developed nation in the world, Insya-Allah.

"We will drive the desired progress together and be proud as one dignified and sovereign nation. In fact, Malaysia would also be the pride of all Muslims as a developed and peaceful Islamic country," he said.

Previously, the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-BN coalition in Penang had successfully formed the new state government after winning 29 of 40 state seats in the state elections last Saturday.
