Jakim officers involved in political activities face disciplinary action

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) takes reports regarding the involvement of its employees in political activities very seriously.

Its Director-General Datuk Hakimah Mohd Yusoff said Jakim would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against employees found to be violating any regulations.

"Jakim wishes to address the viral issue on social media and complaints involving the participation of Jakim employees in political activities.

"I have directed the Jakim Disciplinary Committee to take immediate action in accordance with the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993," she stated in a press release issued yesterday.

Expanding further, Hakimah reminded all the department’s staffs to always adhere to the current regulations and to refrain from any actions that could jeopardise the integrity and image of the civil service.

The statement was believed to refer to the involvement of a senior department officer in the activities of a political party. - AWANI
