Firemen perform certification, licencing checks for premises

SHAH ALAM - Selangor Malaysia Fire and Rescue Services (JBPM) conducts 481 inspections within six months from January to June to support the issuance of a fire certificate.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Md Razali Wan Ismail said during the period, the department received a total of 618 applications for the purpose of certificate renewal.

"A total of 330 premises were given the certificate by the Fire and Rescue Department while 119 applications were rejected due to various offences.

"The fire certificate must be renewed yearly by owners of premises and we really give focus and attention to it,” he said.

Wan Md Razali said they performed 3,179 inspections for licencing purposes.

He explained that a total of 2,712 premises have obtained approval while 467 premises were not supported due to several offences.

"Stores or warehouses recorded the highest for obtaining a licence approval involving 627 applications followed by factories (422), general stores or businesses (398) as well as nurseries or kindergartens (319),” he said.

He besides that, he said there were 382 Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) inspections conducted this year.

"A total of 318 premises were issued with G8 and G9 for CCC while 64 had failed to obtain it (CCC) as it did not comply with the requirements of the installation of fire safety equipment,” he said.

Wan Md Razali also said that the department was working towards increasing awareness among the public so that they would be more aware of the dangers of fire.

He said several awareness programmes and safety campaigns would be carried out to educate the public including students.

Although there were about 1,700 personnel and staff at the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, he said the department would do its best for the public in the state.
