Speeding summons to be mailed to homes, part of nationwide enforcement crackdown

KUALA LUMPUR - "Saman ekor" or postal fines for speeding violations will now be dispatched to the residences of road users found to exceed the speed limit nationwide.

Bukti Aman Deputy Director for Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Datuk Mohd Nasri Omar said the efforts are part of enforcement to combat speeding offences, effective yesterday.

He said the ongoing crackdown on speeding offenses will cover all states, and districts.

As of yesterday, a total of 8,718 K170A fines were issued, involving 8,352 fines for cars, 44 for motorcycles and 322 for commercial and service vehicles, "A total of 8,718 K170A fines were issued yesterday (Monday), he told Sinar Daily.

He said that the enforcement of fines for speeding offences will be carried out continuously to warn all road users to comply with the established regulations within the country.

He said speeding remains as the primary factor contributing to road accidents in the country, resulting in vehicles lossing control.

"Notification of K170A fine offences for exceeding the speed limit will be delivered to vehicle owners via registered mail according to the driver's license address," he said.

He further added that the JSPT will use speed cameras to record any road users who violate the speed limit.

He also said that it is the responsibility of vehicle owners to provide details of the driver of the vehicle who committed the offence within seven days from the receipt of the notification.

"All speeding offences can be compounded and settled at any traffic district throughout the country," he added.
