SHAH ALAM - The undercover method by personnel to monitor corruption at every entry point including at the national border is an effective way to combat corruption.

Penang Pertubuhan Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) president Professor Dr Zainal Alimuddin Zainal Alauddin said the existence of special personnel especially from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will 'unravel the secrets' of irresponsible parties that allowed smuggling activities and undocumented migrants to easily enter Malaysia.

"If MACC does not have enough staff, perhaps special personnel from other security agencies can do so.

"It is aimed at curbing corruption crimes at the border but it needs to be done carefully," he told Sinar Harian.

He was commenting on a report on Aug 18 that the MACC needed to establish an undercover unit within the Malaysian Immigration Department to detect perpetrators behind the 'SOP Gelap'.

Malaysian Ummah Halal Economy and Entrepreneurship Council secretary-general Dr Helmi Ibrahim said the anti-graft agency needed to put together an undercover unit in the department to detect the existence of foreign entry procedures at the entrance of the country by accepting bribes and identify who the perpetrators were.

Meanwhile, Zainal was of the view that investigations into corruption must be carried out transparently regardless of a person's position.
