BUKIT MERTAJAM - A grenade was found at a solid waste management site in Ampang Jajar, Seberang Jaya here at 1.30pm, Monday.

Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Tan Cheng San said the police received a complaint from a landfill worker who reported finding an object suspected of being a hand grenade.

"The police investigation found that the location of the incident is a solid waste management site, which is a hilly and fenced area.

"The object suspected to be a hand grenade is rusted but its nature is complete," he said in a statement.

He added that the Penang Police Headquarters Bomb Disposal Unit had been called to carry out an inspection.

"A security check has been made, then the destruction process has been made in the area.

"The police are still conducting further investigations regarding the discovery of the hand grenade," he said.
