JOHOR BAHRU - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), which has a state assemblyman in Johor, has confirmed that it is no longer aligned with the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition in the government bloc.

Muda's deputy president, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz, stated that this decision is in line with the announcement made by its president, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, on Sunday, stating that the party is no longer part of the PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance in the unity government.

She clarified that, as the state assemblywoman for Puteri Wangsa and Muda's representative in Johor, she will no longer share the same bloc with PH or BN.

"What does this mean for the Puteri Wangsa seat? In the Johor State Assembly, the previous arrangement was for PH and Muda to be in the government balancing bloc.

"So, as Muda's deputy president, I am now also following the party's decision to exit the PH and BN blocs. "This is in line with the aspiration to uphold the political principles that Muda and I have been advocating since the last Johor state election in 2022," she said in a statement on Tuesday.

Despite no longer being aligned with PH, Amira stated that the state and the constituents of Puteri Wangsa remain a priority, regardless of the challenges or trials they may face in the future.

She will continue to carry out the mandate given to her by the people in the last Johor state election until the next election.

"I believe that new politics demands every representative to take responsibility entrusted by the people and voters. The decision made by Muda is aimed at preserving this trust," she said.

On Sunday, Muda announced that it would act as the third force in opposition, thereby withdrawing its support for the unity government.

Syed Saddiq explained that the notification of this matter had been submitted to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker, Tan Sri Johari Abdul, through a letter sent on Sunday.

Following this, on Monday, the Johor opposition chief, Andrew Chen Kah Eng, stated that Muda is no longer part of the PH's balancing bloc in the state, and this move is justified based on Muda's recent decisions after diverging from PH on several issues.
