ALOR SETAR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has been urged to respect the decision of the High Court to discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from 47 charges.

Kedah PKR Youth wing chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said that all parties should have confidence in the country's legal and judicial systems as independent and impartial institutions.

He said it should not be tainted by holding protest rallies against the case, which could tarnish the reputation of the country's judiciary.

"Have faith that the decision in this case was not made under anyone's direction or government interference. It is a decision based on the country's laws and was adjudicated by the judiciary transparently," he said here on Tuesday.

He made these remarks in response to the intentions of the PN youth, together with a coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to hold a "Save Malaysia Movement" gathering in front of Sogo Complex on Malaysia Day this Saturday.

The Pas youth chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, announced that the campaign, scheduled to start at 2pm, aims to raise awareness among the people about current issues, including the dropping of corruption and money laundering charges against Ahmad Zahid.

Mohammed Taufiq, on the other hand, hoped that the PN would focus on being a quality opposition that helps maintain the country's stability.

"Our nation is now on a clear path. Let us be an opposition that contributes to the country and preserves political peace.

"Holding protest rallies like this is highly inappropriate; let's accept the court's decision. Street protests will only tarnish the country's image in the eyes of the world," he emphasised.

He also noted that PN leaders should be fair in their views and suggested a similar tone be used when discussing the release of PN chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
