KUALA LUMPUR - The action by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to withdraw from supporting the Unity Government is full of principle.

Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar described Syed Saddiq's action as clearly based on principles, following up on the issue regarding the discharge not amounting to an acquittal" (DNAA) involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Because they (PH MPs) said Syed Saddiq won because of the support of votes from PH. The basis of this argument is that Syed Saddiq won because the voters in Muar supported PH.

"My argument is that PH MPs should resign, not Syed Saddiq, because Syed Saddiq is an honest MP with the PH platform policy," he said.

On the other hand, Pakatan Harapan (PH) MPs claimed Khairy should do so because they violated the PH manifesto in the last general election.

"That is not cooperating with Umno and Zahid Hamidi. No one remembers the PH manifesto; people voted for PH in the last GE because of the Altimet song Hoi Hoi Ya Hoi. So Syed Saddiq is the only one who still adheres to the principle of rejecting Hoi Hoi Ya Hoi; all the others are Hoi Hoi Yes Hoi.

"The one who has to resign and ask for the mandate back from the voters is PH for breaking its promise to the people," he added.

He said this in the Keluar Sekejap podcast programme with former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan on Wednesday.

Commenting further, Khairy said that although the Muar MP was the third-force opposition, he was seen as if he was being bullied.

"I'm not Syed Saddiq's main supporter, but I don't like bullies. I don't like bullies. I see Syed Saddiq being bullied right now, as if people say he has no principles," he said. - Awani
