Two military personnel injured after car plunges into ravine

TAPAH - Two military personnel were seriously injured when their car veered off the road and plunged into a nearly five-meter deep ravine at Batu 13, Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands here today.

In the incident, both victims, aged 23 and 28, were trapped inside a Perodua Myvi car.

It is understood that both victims were traveling from Cameron Highlands heading towards Taiping.

Tapah Fire and Rescue Department chief Nadzri Che Nordin said 12 firefighters were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 9.50am.

"Both victims were trapped in the front seats.

"Firefighters used rescue equipment to extract them.

"The team took about 40 minutes to lift the victims using rope rescue techniques," he said when contacted.

He said the 28-year-old car driver suffered a broken left leg while his friend suffered a broken left arm.

"Both victims were later sent to Tapah Hospital in a Health Ministry ambulance and the Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) vehicle for further treatment," he said.
