"Malays will lose power" remark: Muhyiddin done giving statement to police

KUALA LUMPUR - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin completed his statement to police today on his alleged remark that "the Malays will lose power" during the Simpang Jeram State Assembly by-election campaign in Johor.

The former prime minister, dressed in black arrived at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) office on Jalan Sentral here at 9.13am.

He emerged with his entourage at 11.58am, smiling and waving to reporters.

However, the 76-year-old leader did not make any statement regarding the matter.

On Sept 3, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president was reported to have allegedly made racially charged statements during a speech in Simpang Jeram, Johor.

In his speech, which was also shared on Facebook, Muhyiddin said: "The Malays no longer control the government today, which means the Malays have lost power, whether they realisese it or not, whether it's true or not."

Media reports indicated that this action led to an investigation by the Elite Crime Investigation Unit (USJT) of Bukit Aman under Section 4(A) of the Election Offences Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Sept 12, the police took a statement from the Pagoh MP to assist in the investigation related to his alleged statement that it was forbidden to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Suhaizan Kayat in the Pulai Parliamentary by-election.
