Baby girl's body found in flats' dumpster

GEORGETOWN - The body of a newborn baby girl with the umbilical cord still attached was found in a rubbish dumpster at the Bandar Baru, Farlim flats in Air Itam, here on Thursday.

The girl baby was found by a group of cleaners trying to unload rubbish into a lorry at 10am.

It is understood that the body of the baby was found neither clothed nor wrapped in cloth.

North East District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong confirmed the discovery of the baby's body.

"I confirm that the police have received a report and further investigations are still being conducted as per Section 318 of the Penal Code.

"The baby's body was sent to Penang Hospital for an autopsy," he said when contacted on Thursday.
