Baling APM captures 80kg python stuck in fishing net

ALOR SETAR - An 80 kilogramme (kg) python was successfully caught by the Civil Defence Force (APM) at Kampung Sungai Tembak, Baling on Friday.

Baling District APM Officer Lieutenant (PA) Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said he received a report at about 11am regarding the presence of a python about seven metres (m) long stuck in a man’s fishing net.

"Initial information revealed the man was fishing with his wife before finding the snake stuck on the fishing net near the river.

"In fear, the man called the Baling APM emergency hotline to ask for aid in capturing the reptile,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He said as they arrived at the scene, the operations to capture the reptile were done using special tools.

Faizol said the snake was successfully caught and brought to the Baling APM office for further action.

He said the heavy rains recently were suspected of being the cause of large snakes entering homes of residents around the Baling district.

"Baling APM often receives emergency calls regarding the presence of snakes and some species were dangerous,” he said.

However, Faizol informed Baling APM officers remained on duty as per usual and were prepared despite being busy helping flood victims in evacuation centres.

"All personnel are equipped to always provide aid as well as ensure all assets saved are well maintained.

"In fact, the disaster management aspects had been extended to the village community level to ensure quick assistance could be provided,” he said.
