KUALA LUMPUR - The Human Resource Ministry welcomes the government's allocation for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and incentives under the Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) in the 2024 Budget, which was tabled earlier.

Its minister, V. Sivakumar, said the Budget 2024 was comprehensive as it covered all Malaysians.

"The allocation for TVET is significant, with a RM6.8 billion allocation. This is very important, as it shows the government's serious efforts to ensure that there are more skilled workers in our country.

"This can also reduce the rate of dependency on foreign workers, so we should train more local workers," he added.

"While under HRD Corporation, there are RM1.7 million workers, mainly in upscaling, and all this can help improve the skills of workers in our country," he said.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier announced that the government has allocated RM6.8 billion to empower the country’s TVET industry next year.
