PETALING JAYA - Men face a multitude of health challenges, and it's often a combination of factors that contribute to their overall well-being, says an expert.

Guards Health Consultant Urologist Dr George Lee, popularly known as Dr G, said it's essential to delve into the complexities of men's health to fully grasp the interplay of lifestyle, alcohol consumption, stress, and medication.

"A poor lifestyle can have a significant impact on men's health.

"It encompasses dietary choices, physical activity levels, smoking habits, and overall self-care, as men need to realise that their daily choices can significantly affect their quality of life.

"This includes factors like nutrition, exercise, and sleep patterns," Dr G said during his speech at the launch of Alpro Men's Health Teleconsult, supported by Viatris.

Excessive alcohol consumption has long been linked to health issues, he added.

"From liver problems to an increased risk of certain cancers, alcohol can have far-reaching health consequences," he said.

Dr G advised that men should be aware of their alcohol consumption, which was closely associated with their well-being.

"In today's demanding world, it's not unusual for men to be under continuous stress.

"Constant worrying and anxiety can affect both mental and physical health.

"Recognising the symptoms and effects of chronic stress is crucial for men to seek effective coping mechanisms," he added.

On the other hand, he said medication can be both a lifesaver and a source of potential health challenges.

Dr G said understanding the medications men take, potential side effects, and any interactions is essential, as this knowledge empowers them to make informed decisions about their health.

"This comprehensive exploration of men's health aims to provide valuable insights and guidance.

"It's about empowering men to lead healthier lives, make informed decisions, and take charge of their well-being.

"Understanding how these various factors interconnect can pave the way for a better quality of life, both in and out of bed," he added.
