SHAH ALAM – In the heartbreaking ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, the significant number of casualties can be attributed to the political backing that Israel has garnered from Western nations.

Asia Middle East Centre for Research and Dialogue (AMEC) director Dr Muslim Imran said that it is alleged that the killings in the Gaza Strip happened due to the political cover that Israel has reportedly received from Western countries, a not-new tactic for Israel.

"This is the reason they are targeting civilians, and the use of white phosphorus constitutes yet another war crime.

"However, this is not a new tactic for Israel. They have employed it in previous wars, including in southern Lebanon, and they are using it once again in Gaza because no one is stopping them from doing so,” he added.

Prior to this, he has shed light on the idea that the international community should express concerns about Israel’s actions.

"In fact, the pattern established in Gaza prompts the international community to ponder what their actions may entail in other conflicts, including the outgoing situation in Russia and Ukraine.

"If either party in these conflicts begins to use such illegal, internationally banned weapons, whether chemical or biological, it forces us to ask what moral standing the world has when they seek to condemn their use.

"While Israel is using such weaponry, questions are raised about the moral authority of those who preach democracy and human rights worldwide, especially when they bear witness to the slaughter of our children and remain far from silent.

"In this incident, the West is not remaining silent; rather, they are complicit,” he added.

On top of that, Muslims said that Western countries have gone to the extent of threatening to deploy soldiers.

"For instance, the United States issued a threat to send 2,000 troops to engage in combat in Gaza and dispatched warships.

"This development left many puzzled as to why they would choose to engage in a conflict with the Palestinian population.
