KEMAMAN - Kemaman's by-election candidate, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, believed that his election as a Parliament candidate would have no impact on his duties as Menteri Besar.

On the other side, he asserted that winning the election would benefit the people and the state of Terengganu.

"Three Chief Ministers have already held the position of Member of Parliament, and they are capable of doing their duties effectively. Even states that are seen as busy, such as Penang and Selangor, are still able to carry out their duties as members of Parliament and Menteri Besar.

"As Chief Minister, not only of Kemaman,I may also bring issues related to the entire state of Terengganu and, of course, demand a bigger role to bring benefits to the people," he said.

A member of the Ru Rendang State Legislative Assembly, Ahmad Samsuri, is going to face opposition from General (B) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, the candidate for Barisan Nasional (BN), who was previously the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

The Kemaman Parliamentary by-election was held following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on September 26, which annulled the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election (GE15).

It happened after petitioner Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil (a voter) proved that corruption had occurred with the intent of influencing votes in the election.
