Kelantan shariah code challenge: Pas supporters gather for solat hajat

PUTRAJAYA - Some 1,000 Pas supporters gathered near the Palace of Justice today to perform the solat hajat for a favourable judgment.

This comes as the hearing for a mother and daughter’s bid to declare several shariah criminal offences enacted by the Kelantan state legislature as unconstitutional continues before the Federal Court today.

The crowd has gathered here since 8am, with some coming all the way from Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu.

Some were spotted with Palestine flags while others held up placards saying "Defend Kelantan’s shariah enactments”.

They were joined by Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, party secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and vice-president Idris Ahmad.

Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang is expected to address the crowd after he arrives later.

Also present was Bersatu vice-president and Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin.

The gathering started with a solat hajat.

The Pas supporters are hoping for a favourable judgment in the case, which could have a significant impact on the implementation of shariah law in Malaysia.
