Pardons Board will issue an official statement regarding the matter

SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is rumoured to be released after receiving a full pardon from the Pardons Board.

It was earlier reported that a decision by the Pardons Board on Najib's application might be made known today (Jan 30) after a scheduled meeting held by the board yesterday.

According to Utusan Malaysia, one of the agendas in the meeting which was the last official meeting for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah before the end of his reign was about Najib's jail term.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa who attended the meeting said the Pardons Board will issue an official statement regarding the matter.

Najib, 71, began serving his 12-year jail term at the Kajang Prison on Aug 23, 2022 after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence for misappropriating RM42 million of funds belonging to SRC International Sdn Bhd.

The five-man bench led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat unanimously made the decision after a day of drama which included an attempt by Najib's defense team to recuse her from hearing the appeal.
