‘Always waiting for your return’ – Najib’s daughter

SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter Nooryana Najwa breaks silence on social media by posting an Instagram story on her account today.

Najib's daughter, also fondly known as Yana, posted a picture of his father on her Instagram story with the caption, "Always waiting for your return, however long it takes.”

The story was posted after rumours had circulated since yesterday that the former premier would either be released following a full pardon by the Pardons Board or have his sentence reduced.

Earlier, Channel News Asia (CNA) reported that Najib, who was convicted for misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International Sdn Bhd's funds, has his sentence allegedly been reduced from 12 to six years by the Pardons Board.

The decision, allegedly revealed by senior government officials to CNA, also includes a reduction in Najib's RM210 million fine to an unspecified amount.

This alleged partial royal pardon comes after Najib served less than two years of his original prison term.

With the reduction, he is expected to complete his sentence in August 2028 and could be eligible for parole in August 2026 after serving two-thirds of the new jail term.

Yesterday, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa confirmed the board's meeting on Monday which sparked speculation about the pardon.

Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for his conviction on charges of abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

These charges are related to the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Last year, Yana spoke out on her family's trials and tribulations following her father's incarceration in 2022, emphasising that her father is not a thief.
