Family member's actions raise concerns

SHAH ALAM - Former Sarawak governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has allegedly been abducted from a hospital by a family member.

A police source has confirmed the filing of a report concerning Taib's removal from a medical facility in Kuching.

It was reported that Taib was undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the Normah Medical Specialist Centre in Kuching.

According to the filed report on late Saturday night, a close family member allegedly disconnected all medications attached to Taib without notifying the hospital staff.

Following this, Taib was placed in a wheelchair and taken out of the hospital.

Responding to the matter, Sarawak Police Chief Datuk Mancha Ata reportedly confirmed receiving a police report regarding the claim that had gone viral on social media.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangerment of life or personal safety.

Taib, 87, had served three terms as Sarawak governor from March 1, 2014, until Jan 26 this year, when Tun Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar succeeded him.
