Man stranded on roof for two days in tense standoff with firefighters

SANDAKAN - Firefighters in Sandakan continue their efforts to convince a man, believed to be mentally unstable, stranded on the roof of a four-story building for two days.
Despite reaching out to his wife and utilising various methods, communication with the 39-year-old man has proven unsuccessful.
The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department received a call about the incident on Sunday night and deployed 14 personnel to the scene, located nine kilometres away.
However, as of Wednesday, the man remained on the roof.
"The persuasion process, involving the police and the victim's family, is ongoing.
"Efforts by the victim's wife from Sukau, Kinabatangan, to persuade him yesterday were unsuccessful," said Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department Chief Severinus Sainkui.
Due to concerns for the man's safety, authorities have temporarily halted rescue attempts.
"Following instructions from the police, we've paused the operation after the man threatened to jump if approached.
"The reason for his actions remains unclear, but we will provide updates as information becomes available," Severinus added
