SHAH ALAM - The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) plans to increase the amount of business assistance from RM2,700 to RM5,000 to entrepreneurs who are registered with Social Welfare Department (JKM) and intend to start a business.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the proposal for assistance through the 'Two Years Exit' programme was still at the ministry’s level.

"My friends and I in the ministry will work together to get the permission. Currently, it is RM2,700 but if it can be increased to RM5,000 that would be great.

"They are recipients of assistance from JKM and they want to do business. So, we help by giving capital to develop the business," she said.

She said this as a panellist at the ninth Townhall programme which was aired live on Sinar Harian's Facebook on Thursday.

The programme that took place at the Karangkraf Complex was hosted by actor and comedian Fikry Ibrahim.

In another development, Nancy said women needed to have knowledge and expertise to succeed.

"We don't want them to be women who just sit and wait. We want to be different from the others.
