Wan Saiful claims he was offered RM1.7 million bribe to support PM
"They know that I am struggling now and my wife (has) cancer."
KUALA LUMPUR - The Dewan Rakyat turned into an uproar after Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan claimed to have been offered a bribe to express support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Wan Saiful said among the rewards offered was the Parliament's allocation for his area of RM1.7 million.
The former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Information Chief also claimed to have attended several closed meetings with certain individuals after they tried several times to contact him by phone.
"In all the meetings, the message was that I must support the Tambun Member of Parliament as Prime Minister and in return there would be a reward that would be given to me.
"Among those mentioned to me is the Parliament's allocation of RM1.7 million, part of which is for service centre operations.
"The allocation of the project that he said can be distributed to my cronies. They know that I am struggling now and my wife (has) cancer," he said when debating in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.
Wan Saiful, who did not reveal the names of the individuals concerned, also claimed to have kept records of the meetings.
The situation in the Dewan Rakyat heated up when several MPs from the government bloc rose to question Wan Saiful's allegations which were described as malicious allegations.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) intervened by describing Wan Saiful's allegation as a serious accusation.
"Make a report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)," he said.
However, Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul controlled the situation by ordering Wan Saiful to stop the allegations made.
